Yoon Shun (KR/BE) operates at the convergence of tradition and modernity, probing the tension between roughness and refinement, stability and movement. His practice begins with a direct, tactile engagement with materials—burning, carving, welding, and coiling—drawing out their latent potentials rather than imposing rigid forms. Each piece unfolds gradually, shaped by the passage of time, friction, and the marks left by human touch.
For Shun, balance is not a static condition but a fluid, ever-changing negotiation. By deconstructing and reimagining familiar forms, he creates space for new interpretations. His works remain dynamic—resisting fixed categories and continuously responding to their context. He treats traditional techniques not as immutable rules but as flexible tools for reinvention. His goal is not to preserve the past, but to engage with it—through surface, texture, and the memory embedded in materials. He brings to light not only the material’s physical presence but also the invisible forces that shape it: the passage of time, the traces of human interaction, and the quiet possibility of change Each work is part of an ongoing inquiry. Morphology occurs not just in the material form, but in the very act of creation. Shun’s practice invites introspection—on process, impermanence, and the subtle beauty of things in a constant state of becoming.
